I AM LATE

I am late

Rushing through traffic pushing my weight in
Travelling in a vehicle I can't control hoping it gets there right in time
Each time I hear "after robots" " stop sign" "short left"
My heart beats slow I gasp for some air hoping the clock stops just so I'm not that late

I am late
I didn't wake up late this time nor did i miss my bus
The alarm rang as usual but I am late
I'm running late to my destiny hoping The one who holds it doesn't think I'm tardy and hands it off to the early bird

I missed the seat given to me through the system by the midwife when she pronounces " it's a girl" 10/10/late

The shift went ahead of me and I caught the next with my neck elongated just long enough so I keep picking at the one that left me.I try to make my seat comfortable enough but not that I settle but only that

 I make survive the shift...

I am late 

The end I imagined never seem to come 

my age which is a number that measured the breaths I've taken against time and also measure the success because according the faces i never met 

I should be at a particular place in life acquiring certain material that would at least equate to the very breaths I've taken yet... I am late

For my life has taken a different route that defies the measure...

often labelled as failed
I am weighed and put on a scale that gives a mass...

perhaps not the expected

I'm rushing I'm pushing and five rounds later and out of breath

I am still in the race 

Fighting to reach the finish line 

only to be reminded I'm number four 

because in reality only three positions matter..

Gold, Silver....bronze

Only the first three are celebrated with cheers and are awarded...

well done

They made it...before me..

When the sound went off we started together 

But the system decided my month is later in the year 

so I'm probably slow too 

so I best wait on the next sound

I faithfully ran with the raw 

along the way they got handed water and had their feet geared with shoes

For for the journey so I had to be careful not to run too fast to lose my breath
Had to avoid the pot holes

lest my shoes get caught on  

Had to step on the side because stepping on the stones would only tear my shoes

I am late

Woke up with hope but guilt distracted when the sun shone 

Revealing my scars 

Reminding me I never had shave enough. 

Knowing I did not have enough water cost me time 

for I constantly needed to bend by the river 

to water my soul lest I faint

The constant bending and mending the tear cost me time...

I was on my way 

I've been on my way 

as long as I could breath dream and see it
I've been in the race

And though it looks like I am la:te pm
I will cross the line
